UPDATE: This program is now accepting applications
Playgrounds, especially those found at schools are often overlooked for the amount of sun they expose children to on a daily basis. While sun is good in small exposures repeated daily exposure can lead to skin cancer down the road.
The American Academy of Dermatology is at the forefront of skin cancer prevention, and they have just announced a grant for the 2012 fiscal year that will provide $8,000 toward the purchase of permanent shade structures for outdoor areas.
Eligible applicants are non-profit organizations or public schools that primarily serve children and teens ages 18 and younger. In addition in order to qualify your project must be sponsored by an AAD member dermatologist, and you must show an ongoing commitment to skin cancer prevention by having a sun protection program in place.
This program will begin taking applicants on October 17th, 2011. If you are interested in this program click the button below to contact NSP3 for assistance.
